ARCHITECTS, DESIGNERS, BUILDERS,CONTRACTORS, CODE OFFICIALS, ENGINEERS, CONSULTANTS and APPLICANTS- Are YouReady for the New CALIFORNIA Codes?
Every three years we have to go through this process. Youget used to a set of building codes, and before you are too comfortable usingand navigating, they change! This time, it?s no different. The 2010 CaliforniaBuilding Codes are around the corner. Effective date for the new codes will beJanuary 1, 2011.
This time around we are looking at adopting the 2010 California Building Code(CBC) which will be based on the 2009 IBC. A new code for us will be the CaliforniaResidential Code (CRC) and that will be based on the 2009 IRC. The balance ofthe codes will be the 2010 CFC, CMC, CEC. The 2008 California Energy Standardsare already in effect.
Another twist to all this will be California?s new GreenBuilding Code (CALGreen). Architects will also have to contend with obtainingaccessibility CEU in order to renew their licenses. SB 1608 and the CASpprogram are also two items that recently became hot topics. There are too many codechanges and new regulations that will be taking place, that simply cannot beincluded here.
For Single Family Residential projects, other than the brand new codethat will be adopted (2010 California Residential Code) which will be based onthe 2009 IRC, the biggest surprise for many will be that every newsingle family dwelling starting on January 1st, 2011, will have to be sprinklered.
