A big public relations firm’s pitch to reporters about San Diego Gas & Electric’s efforts in relation to wildfires had nothing to do with the utility.
Chicago-based Edelman approached reporters offering a chance to talk with SDG&E officials about the company?s efforts to prevent fires, and said the efforts are ?driven by consumer demand.?
Erin Buelt, an Edelman account supervisor, said late Thursday that the pitch, which did not mention the company’s actual client, was not meant to mislead.
“Nowhere on the email said we work for SDG&E,” she said. “That wasn’t our intent … to mislead.”
Edelman was working to drum up publicity for a company that supplies electrical equipment to SDG&E, she said.
Michelle Nixon, who heads public relations for SDG&E, said the company didn’t hire Edelman to talk about wildfire issues.
