BPI Introduces “Delta Standard” For Building Performance Evaluation

According to ContractingBusiness.com, the Building Performance Institute, Inc. (BPI) has developed a more accurate method of calculating estimated energy savings for homes undergoing energy efficiency upgrades. The so-called Delta Standard uses energy modeling based on actual utility bills to estimate before and after energy usage, and is applicable for single-family homes and multi-family projects up to four units.

“The Delta Standard will increase homeowners’ confidence in energy savings projected by simulation software used by home performance contractors for homes that undergo energy efficiency retrofits,” said Larry Zarker, BPI’s CEO. “By using actual utility bills to measure pre-retrofit energy consumption, this approach sets realistic boundaries on estimated savings. This is truly a ground-breaking standard for the home performance industry.”
