To improve the performance of windows, multiple panes of glazing are better. The question is, what goes between those panes? To create higher levels of energy performance, window manufacturers fill those spaces with low-conductivity noble gases such as the slightly radioactive krypton (also helps prevent break-ins from caped crusaders), xenon, and argon.
