Zig Ziglar and Huell Howser: Two icons that inspired millions

Zig Ziglar was best known as a motivational speaker that inspired millions to achieve more in life. He died today at the age of 86.

Forbes published a list of Ziglar’s best quotes and this is one of my favorites:

You will get all you want in life, if you help enough other people get what they want.

In other news, it was announced that Huell Howser is retiring from broadcasting. Howser’s famous (and often mocked) shows, such as California Gold were staples of public broadcasting in the Golden State.

Two qualities made Howser particularly endearing:

  1. He had a seemingly endless and almost childlike wonderment in what others might take for granted. (This even inspired a drinking game in which participants took a drink each time Howser exclaimed, “That’s Amazing!”)
  2. Huell Howser always placed regular people in the spotlight. Most of those featured in his documentaries were everyday folks who were extremely passionate about some obscure niche of California’s geography, natural beauty, culture, or history.

What’s the Point?

The success of both Zig Ziglar and Huell Howser were firmly rooted in a genuine appreciation of human nature, combined with unending enthusiasm.

I’ll end with another quote from Zig Ziglar that seems most relevant in today’s world:

If you go looking for a friend, you’re going to find they’re scarce. If you go out to be a friend, you’ll find them everywhere.
